This ancient wayside cross now stands behind the park wall marking the position of the road before the emparkment . The Blundell family moved the road through a private act of Parliament circa 1770. A white cross has been painted on the park wall to alert passers-by to its presence. The stone base of the cross is said to be worn with the knees of those stopping to pray. Historically the wayside crosses marked resting places for funeral parties making their way to Sefton Church.
